Enrico Castellani
Born in 1930, Castelmassa, Italy; dies in 2017 in Castelmassa, Italy.
In 1959, he founds the journal Azimuth and the gallery Azimut with Piero Manzoni. In the same year he also creates his first shaped canvas, probing the potential of the surface of highly-taut canvases.
He participates at Venice Biennale in 1964, 1966 (with a personal room), 1984 and 2003. In 1981, he exhibits L’art en Italie depuis 1959 at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
In 2001, he holds an exhibition, curated by Germano Celant, at the Fondazione Prada in Milan. In 2010, he receives the Praemium Imperiale for painting, considered the most important artistic recognition at an international level, from Prince Hitachi, from the Japan Art Association.
