The Third Paradise

Michelangelo Pistoletto
Michelangelo Pistoletto was born in Biella in 1933. He began to exhibit his work in 1955 and in 1960 he had his first solo show at Galleria Galatea in Turin. In the two-year period 1961-1962 he made the first Mirror Paintings, which directly include the viewer and real-time in the work. These works quickly brought Pistoletto international acclaim, and in the sixties led  to solo shows in important galleries and museums in Europe and the United States. The Mirror Paintings are the foundation of his subsequent artistic output and theoretical thought.
In 1965 and 1966 he produced a set of works entitled Minus Objects, that have been considered fundamental to the birth of the Arte Povera mouvement. In 1967 he began to work outside traditional exhibition spaces, with the key goal of “creative collaboration” that he developed over the following decades by bringing together artists from different disciplines and diverse sectors of society.
During the nineties, with Project Art and with the creation in Biella of Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto and the University of Ideas, Pistoletto brought art into active relation with diverse spheres of society with the aim of inspiring and producing responsible social change. In 2003 he was awarded the Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion for Lifelong Achievement. In 2004 he received the Laurea degree honoris causa in Political Sciences from the University of Turin. On that occasion the artist announced what has become the most recent phase of his work, the Third Paradise. In 2007, in Jerusalem, he received the Wolf Foundation Prize in the Arts.
In 2010 he wrote the essay The Third Paradise. In 2013 the Louvre Museum in Paris hosted his solo exhibition, and in Tokyo he received the Praemium Imperiale for painting. In May 2015 he received a degree honoris causa from the Universidad de las Artes of Havana in Cuba. In the same year he realised a work of large dimensions, called Rebirth, situated in the park of the Palais des Nations in Geneva, headquarters of the United Nations.

cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto was born with the 1994 Progetto Arte Manifesto, with which Michelangelo Pistoletto claims that “the time has come for artists to take on the responsibility of establishing ties among all other human activities, from economics to politics, science to religion, education to behaviour – in a word, among the threads that make up the fabric of society”. Cittadellarte, making this manifesto its own, instituted itself as a laboratory-school open to artists, entrepreneurs, social innovators, scientists, administrators, and politicians from all over the world characterized by a common commitment to develop practices of regeneration of every sector of society.

Cittadellarte operates in collaboration and in network with thousands of public and private subjects sharing its vision. Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto is a non-profit social utility based in Biella (Italy).

Because we are a young school located in Singapore in the heart of South East Asia, a major international port city that for hundreds of years has been the gateway between the East and West, new relationships between traditional and contemporary media, and local and world cultures are being pioneered here. We consider ADM to be a living laboratory, a model of the global community where respect for life and diversity is fundamental, and each student is an ambassador. We welcome those from all countries of South East Asia, Asia, and the larger international environment and encourage them to bring their special experience, knowledge and insights to their studies.
As our planet and its ecosystems are increasingly fragile, our collective responsibility as stewards of its resources means that our students are also asked to consider issues of sustainability in all that they do. Our green building, and our garden city and campus, are an inspiration to us all in this regard, a reminder of our ultimate goal of living in harmony with nature and the universe.

RAM radioartemobile

RAM radioartemobile, founded by Dora Stiefelmeier and Mario Pieroni in 2003, is a platform for contemporary art based in Rome, dedicated to sound research and exhibitive activity which aims towards the creation of an international network.
RAM sets up exhibitions and projects in collaboration with both public and private spaces all over the world, juxtaposing visual and sound art.
In 2004, in the Rome office, RAM founded SAM Sound Art Museum, a permanent archive of Sound Art works open to the public and available on-line.
