Born in 1956 in Rome, Italy. Lives and works in Rome.
Marco Tirelli graduates in stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. He has his first solo exhibition at the De Ambrogi Gallery in Milan in 1978, and the following year at Bernier Gallery in Athens. A few years later he begins a partnership with Galleria L’Attico of Fabio Sargentini, where he has several exhibitions (1984, 1985, 1989). In the mid-1980’s he moves his studio to the Pastificio Cerere at San Lorenzo in Rome, and 1984 he takes part in the exhibition Ateliers with Bianchi, Ceccobelli, Dessì, Gallo and Pizzi Cannella. In 1985 he participates to the group show Anniottanta at the Gallery of Modern Art in Bologna and holds a solo show at the Annina Nosei Gallery in New York, where he exhibits again in 1986 and 1989. In 1992, he has a solo exhibition at Galleria Civica of Modena, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni and Walter Guadagnini. He exhibits numerous times in Italy and abroad, to name a few, Galleria Skulima, Berlin (1989); American Academy in Rome (1990); Galleria Triebold, Basel and Cellar Gallery, Tokyo (both in 1991); Galerie Di Meo, Paris (1995, 2001, 2006); Kro Art Gallery, Vienna (2006); San Lorenzo, Villa Medici, Rome (2007); Galleria Antonella Cattani, Bolzano for Manifesta7 (2008). He participates to Venice Biennale (1981, 1990). In 2002, the Institut Mathildenhoehe Darmstadt installs an important retrospective exhibition entitled Das Universum der Geometrie, which travels the following year to the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Bologna.
