Since he was young, Abate works closely with leading artists of the Italian and international scene.Through his photography, Abate documents the lives of artists such as Kounellis, Merz, Pascali, Penone, Abramovic and Paolini, reporting their stories in a sensitive and personal way. His photographs represent the great cultural ferment of the 1950s and 1960s. His intimate relationship with his artworks continues over the years. From the 1980s, he begins new personal projects, using different techniques like direct contact on the sensitive surface of the film camera. He also experiments colour film and digital cameras.
