The exhibition of the Italian artist explores his personal and affective response to the pandemic. His most recent series is the result of an investigation, which lasted over two years, and focused on the concept of escaping reality. Covid has changed the world for the whole human race. For the first time, we are all involved in the same situation and that has made humanity more united. During lockdown, TV screen became even more important, and was a mean to ‘return’ to normality, at least through the vision of the virtual world.<\/p>\n Pintaldi\u2019s research reveals our complex relationship with the environment, and the idea that the universe, with all that it contains, is about to become a part of our reality more than it has ever been.<\/p>\n Over twenty works will be on display at Mucciaccia Gallery at Gillman Barracks. Pintaldi paints with only the three RGB colours, red, green and blue on a black canvas, placed together in the same way in which the pixels are arranged to create an image on the television screen. The subject matters are drawn from popular culture, TV programmes and cartoons, ranging from actors, actresses, movie\u2019s frames, photographs found on the Internet. In this particular case, the subjects are no longer something that is outside our realm, but rather are something that has settled within us during these past but still recent months.<\/p>\n Cristiano Pintaldi was born in Rome in 1970. The artist\u2019s pictorial research is based on the reconstruction of visual space obtained through a procedure similar to that of the video imaging. He paints pixels using only the three primary colours, red, green and blue. Technically, the artist works on three separate monochrome paintings, one for each colour, using three specifically built masks, one for each colour. The pixels that Pintaldi reproduce on the canvas are painted by hand using spray paint. Only at the end of the process, the assemblage of the painted pixels gives shape to the image. The most complex part of his research is having to paint the picture without ever being able to see it completely, except when the work is finished.<\/p>\n \u00a0Gillman Barracks<\/span><\/p>\n Bernardi started to paint at a very young age and his first works in oils date back to the first half of the eighties. His obsession for detail and learning traditional painting techniques had a significant influence on his artistic formation. <\/span>Once finished high school he moved to Rome where he worked as a restorer in the church of San Francesco a Ripa. After an initial foray with landscapes and portraits, Bernardi turned towards a kind of realism closely associated to Photorealism (Hyperrealism).<\/span><\/p>\n In September 1994 Bernardi had his first solo exhibition obtaining both public recognition and that of the critics. Since then Bernardi has held 15 solo exhibitions worldwide between New York, London, Paris and Detroit and his works have been included in 25 Museum exhibitions and over 100 group exhibitions around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n In 1999 Bernardi met his partner Raphaella Spence, also a hyperrealist artist, with whom he occasionally creates series of big sized paintings painted together representing social scenes such as crowds at football stadiums, executed with incredible skill and attention to detail.<\/span><\/p>\n Since 2012 Bernardi has been taking part in an international Museum tour on Hyperrealism which started at the Kunsthalle Tu\u0308bingen Museum in Germany and has continued with over 13 museum venues worldwide. This traveling show has been on view at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, (Spain), the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, (England), New Orleans Museum <\/span>Of Art (U.S.A.), Oklahoma City Museum Of Art (U.S.A), Museo De Bellas Artes De Bilbao (Spain), Kunsthal Museum Rotterdam (Netherlands), Tampa Museum Of Art (U.S.A.) and many more.<\/span><\/p>\n In 2014 Bernardi was invited to the \u201c2014 Contemporary Realism Biennial\u201d which was held at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art (U.S.A.) In 2010, the Italian multinational oil and gas company, ENI, currently Italy’s largest industrial company, added Bernardi to the group of young talent from across the world who work to uniquely interpret each moment of Eni’s communication and commissioned Bernardi to do a Hyperrealistic painting to be added to their prestigious art collection. In 2015 Bernardi\u2019s paintings were published in \u201cSugar and Sweets\u201d, by D. Goldstein for the Oxford University Press Editions and in 2016, MONA, the Museum Of Old And Modern Art in Tasmania, featured Bernardi\u2019s paintings when publishing \u201cOn the Origin of Art \u201c.<\/span><\/p>\n “Candyland” art exhibition is his first presence in Singapore and Asia.
