Trentaquattro opere in mostra ripercorrono tutta la produzione del grande artista americano, a partire dagli anni Ottanta, quando si allontana dal mondo dei rotocalchi e della pubblicit\u00e0 per avvicinarsi all\u2019arte, fino alle opere pi\u00f9 recenti.<\/p>\n

Atmosfere hawaiane, paesaggi inaspettati, figure mitologiche e suggestioni oniriche, popolano le opere di LaChapelle, in una mostra che procede a ritroso nel tempo: dagli ultimi lavori, New World, Lost and Found e Behold, suggestive foto scattate nel 2017 nell\u2019incontaminata foresta pluviale delle Hawaii, dense di misticismo e spiritualit\u00e0; a quelli meno recenti, realizzati a Los Angeles, come i due grandi pannelli della serie Aristocracy (2014); della monumentale Showtime at the Apocalypse (2013), il famoso ritratto di Natale della famiglia Kardashian; dei Landscape; delle floreali Earth Laughs in Flowers e di Rape of Africa (2009); un\u2019opera provocatoria contro la violenza subita dal continente africano, che d\u00e0 il titolo all\u2019omonimo progetto presentato nel 2008.<\/p>\n

Del 2007, l\u2019anno di svolta della produzione di Lachapelle, \u00e8 la serie The deluge e After the deluge, ispirato dalla visione della Cappella Sistina. Il riferimento al capolavoro michelangiolesco si mescola a quello di marchi della societ\u00e0 dei consumi, generando una visione apocalittica con un finale dove oggetti, opere d\u2019arte e persone appaiono sommerse dall\u2019acqua, come in Cathedral, Statue e Awakened.<\/p>\n

Concludono l\u2019esposizione la serie di fotografie realizzate tra il 1984 e il 2009 che guardano al mondo dello spettacolo e delle star di Hollywood, come i tre ritratti di Michael Jackson che ne celebrano la beatificazione mediatica, quello hollywoodiano di Faye Dunaway in Day of the Locust (1996), Dynamic Nude e l\u2019unica fotografia in bianco e nero scattata a New York: Good News for Modern Man del 1984.<\/p>\n

Con l\u2019occasione verr\u00e0 pubblicato un libro con le immagini della mostra, edito da Carlo Cambi Editore.<\/p>\n

David LaChapelle<\/em> <\/strong>\u00e8 oggi uno degli artisti pi\u00f9 riconosciuti e apprezzati al mondo. Nato a Fairfield nel 1963, ha sposato uno stile post-Pop e per certi versi surrealista che lo rende unico al mondo. Le opere di David LaChapelle sono presenti in numerose importanti collezioni pubbliche e private internazionali, ed esposte in vari musei, tra i quali il Mus\u00e9e D\u2019Orsay di Parigi, il Brooklyn Museum di New York, il Museum of contemporary Art di Taipei, il Tel Aviv Museum of Art a Tel Aviv, il Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) a Los Angeles, The National Portrait Gallery di Londra, il Fotographfiska Museet di Stoccolma e The National Portrait Gallery a Washington DC. About the artist<\/h2>\n

Born in 1957 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Lives and works in New York.<\/span>
Holliday began as a student at the San Francisco Art Institute and later went on to perfect his techniques at The New York Studio School and The School of Visual Arts in New York. A Painter and performance artist connected to the Neo Abstract and Neo Expressionist Movement, Holliday reaches fame in New York during the 1970s and 1980s, is often associated with the East Village art scene and the Club 57.<\/span>
In the early years of his career as an artist, he worked closely with Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Ann Magnuson and Kenny Scharf.<\/span>
Frank Holliday has exhibited with the Kenny Schacter and Tony Shafrazi Galleries and has solo exhibitions at Debs & Co., Tom Cugliani Gallery, The Kitchen, GAL Gallery, and Mucciaccia Gallery Singapore.<\/span>
He participates in numerous group exhibitions at prestigious New York spaces such as The Arts Club, Derek Eller, White Columns, Sandra Gering Gallery, Amy Lipton Gallery, Elizabeth Dee, Barbara Toll Fine Art, Lennon Weinberg, PS1, and the Club 57 with Keith Haring.<\/span>
His work receives critical acclaim and is the subject of reviews written by Holland Cotter and Stephen Westfall in Art in America, Gluek Grace and Ken Johnson for The New York Times, and Bill Arning for the Village Voice.<\/span>
Holliday is included in the Heiner Friedrich collection as well as numerous important private collections worldwide in the United States, Europe, Japan, Australia and Mexico.<\/span>
His works are also found in prestigious museum collections such as Moma New York; The Weatherspoon Museum at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro; The Museum Frederick Russe of Stockholm; the Miniature Museum of Amsterdam.<\/span>
He is awarded the National Endowment for the Arts in 1986, the Gottlieb Foundation Fellowship in 2010, the Pollock Krasner Foundation Fellowship in 2010 and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in 2015.<\/span>
