Catherine Loewe, curatrice della mostra, si ispira alla filosofia di Robert Breault, per rendere il colore protagonista principale dell\u2019esposizione: lo si trova nelle sculture assemblate con gli oggetti di recupero di Batchelor, nelle scie colorate dei quadri di Davenport, nei segni delicati e fluttuanti sulle superfici bianche di Fiona Rae e nelle sculture di Annie Morris che con prepotenza definiscono l\u2019ambiente. Infine il colore esce fuori dai quadri per invadere i muri e il pavimento della Galleria stessa, con due realizzazioni site specific, quella di \u201cBeyond\u201d una parete dipinta da Lothar G\u00f6tz e \u201cZobop\u201d, il pavimento realizzato con strisce di vinile da Jim Lambie.<\/p>\n \u201cC\u2019\u00e8 colore nella vita e c\u2019\u00e8 colore nell\u2019arte – afferma la curatrice Catherine Loewe – e c\u2019\u00e8 l\u2019intersezione di queste due cose, che \u00e8 forse dove ci troviamo oggi\u201d.<\/p>\n L\u2019uso del colore e il suo significato sono infatti intrecciati in una complessa rete di riferimenti, in un mondo cromaticamente saturo – dal logo Apple alle magliette Benetton, da Seurat per i Simpsons a Turrell per Tiffany. In questi tempi bui di pandemia, i colori dell\u2019arcobaleno hanno rappresentato per tutti la speranza negli striscioni appesi nei balconi di tutto il mondo.<\/p>\n Il colore \u00e8 la chiave della nostra percezione, la vera essenza di come vediamo e capiamo il mondo, ma la domanda da porsi \u00e8: come lo interpretiamo?<\/p>\n I sei artisti in mostra danno ognuno una personale e unica Holliday began as a student at the San Francisco Art Institute and later went on to perfect his techniques at The New York Studio School and The School of Visual Arts in New York. A Painter and performance artist connected to the Neo Abstract and Neo Expressionist Movement, Holliday reaches fame in New York during the 1970s and 1980s, is often associated with the East Village art scene and the Club 57.<\/span>
In the early years of his career as an artist, he worked closely with Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Ann Magnuson and Kenny Scharf.<\/span>
Frank Holliday has exhibited with the Kenny Schacter and Tony Shafrazi Galleries and has solo exhibitions at Debs & Co., Tom Cugliani Gallery, The Kitchen, GAL Gallery, and Mucciaccia Gallery Singapore.<\/span>
He participates in numerous group exhibitions at prestigious New York spaces such as The Arts Club, Derek Eller, White Columns, Sandra Gering Gallery, Amy Lipton Gallery, Elizabeth Dee, Barbara Toll Fine Art, Lennon Weinberg, PS1, and the Club 57 with Keith Haring.<\/span>
His work receives critical acclaim and is the subject of reviews written by Holland Cotter and Stephen Westfall in Art in America, Gluek Grace and Ken Johnson for The New York Times, and Bill Arning for the Village Voice.<\/span>
Holliday is included in the Heiner Friedrich collection as well as numerous important private collections worldwide in the United States, Europe, Japan, Australia and Mexico.<\/span>
His works are also found in prestigious museum collections such as Moma New York; The Weatherspoon Museum at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro; The Museum Frederick Russe of Stockholm; the Miniature Museum of Amsterdam.<\/span>
He is awarded the National Endowment for the Arts in 1986, the Gottlieb Foundation Fellowship in 2010, the Pollock Krasner Foundation Fellowship in 2010 and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in 2015.<\/span>
