Nato a Coazze (Torino) nel 1945, Gianni Piacentino inizia la sua carriera con il gruppo Arte Povera, a met\u00e0 degli anni ’60, abbandona molto presto il gruppo per dedicarsi alla realizzazione di prototipi di veicoli a due e tre ruote con materiali industriali.
Queste sculture dalle forme geometriche realizzate in legno dipinto e verniciato hanno sviluppato una tecnica pittorica originale.
Le sue opere sono state esposte in Europa dal 1966 in spazi pubblici come il Palais des Beaux Arts a Bruxelles, il Centro de Arte Reina Sofia a Madrid; Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Bologna e Palazzo delle Esposizioni di Roma; Galleria Nazionale di Berlino, Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Aktuelle Kunst di Brema e Museum am Ostwall di Dortmund; PS1 a New York e numerose gallerie private.
Nel 1977 \u00e8 invitato a partecipare a Documenta 6 e nel 1993 alla XLV Biennale di Venezia. Le sue opere fanno parte delle collezioni permanenti della Galleria d\u2019Arte Moderna di Torino e del Museo di Reggio Emilia, del Power Institute of Fine Arts di Sidney (Australia), della National Gallery di Berlino e del Neuen Museums Weserburg, Bremen.<\/p>\n
