Fatto prigioniero dagli inglesi, resta internato in un campo del Nord Africa, prima di essere trasferito dagli americani a Hereford, in Texas, dove inizia a dipingere. Tornato in Italia nel 1946, Burri si trasferisce a Roma, deciso a diventare artista. Nel 1951 partecipa alla fondazione del Gruppo Origine, con Ballocco, Capogrossi e Colla. Nel 1952 espone per la prima volta alla Biennale di Venezia e pone mano al \u201cGrande Sacco\u201d. Le mostre di Chicago e New York del 1953 segnano l\u2019inizio del successo internazionale. Nel 1954 realizza piccole combustioni su carta. Continua a utilizzare il fuoco anche negli anni successivi, realizzando Legni (1956), Plastiche (1957) e Ferri (1958 circa). La sua fama \u00e8 ormai riconosciuta, e nel 1960 la Biennale di Venezia gli dedica una sala personale. Tra il 1961 e il 1969 Burri realizza il ciclo di Plastiche Combuste. Nel 1963 espone al Museum of Fine Arts di Houston. Nel 1965 vince il Gran Premio alla Biennale di San Paolo. Sul finire degli anni \u201960 si trasferisce a Los Angeles. In considerazione del suo successo, la Galleria Nazionale d\u2019Arte Moderna di Roma gli dedica una sala permanente.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″
