Oramai è tempo
Anselmo, Castellani, Nagasawa
LONDON | MUCCIACCIA GALLERY
7 October – 15 December 2016
PRESS RELEASE
Partners & Mucciaccia Gallery at 45 Dover Street – London, will inaugurate their new venture next Thursday, 6 October 2016, at 5 pm with an exhibition dedicated to the entity of time “Oramai e’ tempo: Anselmo, Castellani, Nagasawa”. The event, curated by Bruno Corà, examines the work of three contemporary artists, pioneers of significant linguistic and aesthetic developments, who have characterised the art from the sixties up until the present day.
Observing the artistic journey of each one of them, one discovers numerous different approaches to their oeuvres in which the dimension of time seems central to the conception and realisation of their works.
For Giovanni Anselmo, the temporal element is revealed in his first work My Shadow into Infinity from the Top of Stromboli at Dawn, August 16, 1965 to then reappear constantly at the center of important works like his For an Engraving of Indefinite Thousands of Years, 1969 or Three Hundred Million Years, 1969, and up until the installation As the Earth Rotates, 2016 bearing the “present tense” in the title of the work on display .
Nonetheless, for Enrico Castellani time is the essential element shown with a rhythmic protrusion that sensitises to infinity its surfaces through intro—estroflections of the canvas. Thus his Wall of Time, 1968, continues to be emblematic.
For Hidetoshi Nagasawa, finally, temporality is revealed in numerous works that affirm its invisibility whilst allowing its perception, like Watch, 1968, Time Zero, 1992, Crossing in Time, 1993, and Boat, 1980-81, which carries a living and growing tree.
The extraordinary presence of the oeuvres of these artists, besides being a unique opportunity to contemplate their work, is also the base of the current research on the notion of time in art elaborated by Bruno Corà in his essay published for the occasion in the exhibition catalogue, and which he developed starting from the poetic intuition of “By Now” by Emilio Villa.
