James Busby
James Busby è nato nel 1973 a Rock Hill (South Carolina) e vive e lavora a Chapin in South Carolina. Nel 2003 consegue il titolo in Master of Fine Arts alla Virginia Commonwealth University.
La sua ricerca artistica è incentrata sulla manualità sull’all’attenzione alla fattura di retaggio Costruttivista: per meglio indagare la realtà dell’opera e per tornare alle origini della pittura, fa si che i suoi lavori non rappresentino più altro che la loro stessa materialità.
Le opere sono frutto di un processo lungo e rigoroso: il più delle volte l’opera nasce da un supporto in legno su cui viene spalmato del gesso affinché gli strati si accumulino lentamente. Una volta raggiunto lo spessore desiderato l’artista passa alla levigatura della superficie, un processo caratterizzato dal rigore esecutivo e che dona all’opera l’effetto texture.
Le opere di James Busby si possono considerare aperte, per la possibilità di continue variazioni che assumono nella reciproca disposizione. La qualità riflettente delle sue opere richiede allo spettatore di muoversi attorno sino a suggerire un numero pressoché infinito di esperienze visive, ogni qual volta un riflesso cambia.
Sono state dedicate diverse mostre a James Bubsy, tra le personali sono da ricordare Talking in Code, New Paintings and Drawings (2015) presso la Reyonolds Gallery a Richmond e Life Around Here (2016) presso la Kravets|Wheby Gallery di New York. Nell’aprile del 2019 partecipa alla doppia personale Aftermodernism A perspective on contemporary Art James Bubsy Justin Samson presso la galleria Mucciaccia Contemporary. Busby fa parte del movimento artistico Aftermodernism fondato dal collezionista Hubert Neumann, si sono tenute mostre a lui dedicate a Londra, Parigi, Stoccolma e Istanbul. Ha partecipato a diverse fiere d’arte a Miami, Houston, Stoccolma, Istanbul e New York City, tra cui l’International Armory Show di New York, Untitled Art Fair, Scope NY e Untitled Art Fair, Miami.
