Mucciaccia Gallery Supported The Italian Red Cross

Ian Davenport, Brilliant Blue, 2020

The arts define humanity. Through knowledge one can find art, but this is also true the other way around, through the arts one finds knowledge. However it is, one is entrusted with a sense of responsibility and aspiration: Giving back.

History teaches us that there has always been a strong relationship between Art and Philanthropy. Patrons have played an important role, greatly supporting the arts, however indirectly also the needs of society. When one contributes to the community, driven by the need to respect human dignity, the result is something incredible! Mucciaccia Gallery’s ambition is to be present in moments of crisis to help improve the lives of others during very difficult times.

On 24 August 2016, at 3.36 am, a tremendous earthquake of magnitude 6.0 hit Amatrice and the surrounding areas destroying almost everything. The entire country was in complete dismay by the disaster caused, the number of victims, and desperation of the inhabitants of the areas affected by the earthquake, most of whom had lost everything.

Galleria Mucciaccia, with the collaboration of Galleria La Nuova Pesa Centre for Contemporary Art, decided to act immediately and organized “The Art to rebuild. Artisti per Amatrice ”, a charity auction which was held in our gallery in Rome, just over two months later, on November 21. The funds raised by the auction were in favour of the Onlus “Io ci sono”, and specifically to support the project “Smile for Accumoli, Amatrice and Arquata del Tronto”. The project aimed to build a multi-purpose recreational center, with seismic criteria.

The charity event saw the participation of Christie’s, with Luciano Carnaroli as Auctioneer, and Carlo Cambi Editore that offered to publish a catalogue to mark the event. It was as if the Gallery had thrown a pebble into the water: a simple gesture had generated great participation, involving many people, united together in solidarity with the population affected by the tragedy. Many artists joined theinitiative, creating artworks for the occasion. All 53 artworks were sold and the auction raised over Euro 60,000 which were entirely donated to the Charity.

Today Mucciaccia Gallery is uniting in support of the Italian Red Cross. The gallery has organized an online charity auction, Heartbid, to help raise funds for the Italian Red Cross, which is working tirelessly to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic. In an effort to help in the fight against the virus and stop the spread, twenty-six artists generously embraced our online charity auction kindly donating their works of art.

We are very grateful to the kind support of Italian Masters Valerio Adami, Roberto Bernardi, Giosetta Fioroni, Rossella Fumasconi, Massimo Giannoni, Ria Lussi, Milo Manara, Gianfranco Meggiato, Roberto Miniati, Gianni Piacentino, Cristiano Pintaldi, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Piero Pizzi Cannella, Oliviero Rainaldi, as well as international acclaimed artists who came together with great enthusiasm James Busby, Ian Davenport, Jiri Dokoupil, Ben Edwards, Lothar Goetz, Hisao Hanfusa, Frank Holliday, Daniel Jouseff, Tom Sanford, Kwangho Shin, Raphaella Beatrice Spence, Llewellyn Xavier.

Heartbid was active online from April 27 to May 03, 2020. 100% of all funds raised by the online auction were donated directly to the Croce Rossa Italiana.

We would like to thank everyone who participated to the online charity auction making their donation. Heartbid raised Euro 83,455. The funds will go towards helping the Italian Red Cross and their thousands of volunteers and operators who are offering assistance, health and logistical support, as well as safely managing the transport of potentially suspect cases to relevant hospitals. The Italian Red Cross is also taking steps to provide psychological support as well as assist the most vulnerable and those who are socially and healthily at risk (services include home shopping, social transport, delivery of medicines and primary goods…).

This fantastic result is testament to the amazing spirit of human solidarity. We stand together to support those in need, to bring hope, and to win the fight!!
