Brigita Huemer was born in Austria in 1972 and currently lives and works in Rome. As a child she developed a special interest in art and photography. In 1999 she worked as an assistant for Walter Schupfer\u2019s photography agency and later became studio manager for photographer Todd Eberle. Her training started at The Art Students League in New York and continued with a diploma from the Department of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts.<\/p>\n

Initially she was drawn to a naturalistic photographic technique, and then she continued with artistic experimentation, first on the human figure with cutout portraits and then on the abstraction of forms.<\/p>\n

She participated in various collective exhibitions including\u00a0Das Ei,<\/em>\u00a0a project organized in 2013 for the Flashback fair in Turin. In 2017 she exhibited at the Ricordi Futuri 2.0 exhibition at Polo del \u2018900 in Turin and\u00a0Il Segno della Memoria<\/em>\u00a0at the European Parliament in Brussels. In the same year she held two solo exhibitions, one at El Magazen dell\u2019Arte in Venice and the other at the Galleria Ferrero Arte Contemporanea in Ivrea.<\/p>\n

The works of Brigita Huemer have their signature style in the repetition of modular geometrical shapes, programmatically established by the rhythmic passage from monochrome. They are never a monotonous and mechanical repetition of themselves because each of these variations, in a cause and effect relationship, generates a total shift of all the internal equilibriums of the pictorial composition.<\/p>\n

In 2018 she participated in the exhibitions:\u00a0Ricordi futuri 4.0 \u2013 Cosa c\u2019\u00e8 in fondo al binario<\/em>\u00a0at the Milan Holocaust Memorial and\u00a0Unforgettable Childhood<\/em>, both curated by Ermanno Tedeschi. In May 2018 the duo exhibition\u00a0Emotiva, Brigita Huemer e Angelica Romeo<\/em>\u00a0curated by Cesare Biasini Selvaggi was held at the Mucciaccia Contemporary gallery in Rome.<\/p>\n

After\u00a0her studies at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence, she moves to Rome in 1946. Together with her future husband, Antonio Sanfilippo, they found Forma 1 in 1947, with also Turcato, Attardi, Perilli, Dorazio and Guerrini. The Group considers the geometric lines\u00a0as pure form toward abstraction and formalism, rejecting any link of continuity with the Italian painting of the last twenty years. After\u00a0the group Forma 1 breaks-up in 1951, Accardi continues her abstract, but concrete, research until 1952 and from 1954 she starts painting in black and white \u2013 the Negativi<\/i>. In\u00a01961, she reintroduces colours in her compositions, obtaining also optical effects. Accardi joins the Continuit\u00e0 Group, and prepares solo exhibitions\u00a0in\u00a0New York and\u00a0London. In\u00a0the 1970s,\u00a0she works with glazes on terracotta tiles and paints repeated geometric patterns on sicofoil,\u00a0transparent plastic instead of canvas. Using large sheets, she completes a series of works that investigate the relationship with the environment: Tenda<\/i> and Tripla tenda <\/i>for Galleria Editalia of Rome and for Venice Biennale 1976, Ambiente\/Arte Section. She participates at Venice Biennale in 1948, 1964, 1976, 1978, 1993 and in 1988 she is given a personal room. In the 1980s, Accardi returns to two-dimensional with the sequences of the Parentesi<\/i> and Capricci<\/i>. She exhibits in solo and group exhibitions abroad.\u00a0In 1996, Accardi is\u00a0named Accademico di Brera in Milan and in 1997 she receives the Cavaliere di Gran Croce.<\/p>\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n\u00a0\r\n
