Born in 1979 in Northampton MA. Lives and works in Nyack, NY.<\/p>\n

After graduating from Cornell University in 2002 with a BFA in Painting and a BA in American Studies, she continued her study of painting in the MFA program at Hunter College in New York City, earning an MFA in painting in 2006.<\/p>\n

Chastain-Chapman\u2019s paintings depict fractured worlds that mirror our own, and center female figures who must do their best to exist in precarious circumstances. Utilizing a variety of painting styles and resonating with surrealist modes of image-making, her work investigate themes such as domestication, artifice, construction, over-consumption, beauty, climate change, and the failure inherent to human endeavors. While there is a sense of tragedy to the paintings, irony, comedy and the desire to triumph exist as well.<\/p>\n

In addition to traditional acrylics, Chastain-Chapman uses glitter in her paintings. Glitter adds a sparkle that can\u2019t be achieved with paint alone, and its cultural associations relate to the themes of femininity, artifice, and beauty in her work.<\/p>\n

Chastain-Chapman has been represented by Kravets|Wehby Gallery in New York City since 2004. Her work has been shown in solo, two-person, and group exhibitions in New York City, Los Angeles, London, and Paris, and is held in numerous private collections. Career highlights include a two- person exhibition in 2012 at the Nassau County Museum in Roslyn, NY, inclusion in The Incomplete at the Chelsea Art Museum in 2007, and a 2008 profile in Art World Magazine.<\/p>\n

After\u00a0her studies at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence, she moves to Rome in 1946. Together with her future husband, Antonio Sanfilippo, they found Forma 1 in 1947, with also Turcato, Attardi, Perilli, Dorazio and Guerrini. The Group considers the geometric lines\u00a0as pure form toward abstraction and formalism, rejecting any link of continuity with the Italian painting of the last twenty years. After\u00a0the group Forma 1 breaks-up in 1951, Accardi continues her abstract, but concrete, research until 1952 and from 1954 she starts painting in black and white \u2013 the Negativi<\/i>. In\u00a01961, she reintroduces colours in her compositions, obtaining also optical effects. Accardi joins the Continuit\u00e0 Group, and prepares solo exhibitions\u00a0in\u00a0New York and\u00a0London. In\u00a0the 1970s,\u00a0she works with glazes on terracotta tiles and paints repeated geometric patterns on sicofoil,\u00a0transparent plastic instead of canvas. Using large sheets, she completes a series of works that investigate the relationship with the environment: Tenda<\/i> and Tripla tenda <\/i>for Galleria Editalia of Rome and for Venice Biennale 1976, Ambiente\/Arte Section. She participates at Venice Biennale in 1948, 1964, 1976, 1978, 1993 and in 1988 she is given a personal room. In the 1980s, Accardi returns to two-dimensional with the sequences of the Parentesi<\/i> and Capricci<\/i>. She exhibits in solo and group exhibitions abroad.\u00a0In 1996, Accardi is\u00a0named Accademico di Brera in Milan and in 1997 she receives the Cavaliere di Gran Croce.<\/p>\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n\u00a0\r\n
