Mucciaccia Contemporary by Giulia Abate is delighted to present Flickering Light, an exhibition of new works by Sue Arrowsmith. This is the artist\u2019s first solo show in Rome, and the exhibition will open to the public on Thursday, April 20 and run until June 21, 2023.<\/p>\n

The theme of nature is at the basis of Sue Arrowsmith’s work. The exhibition is a poetic narration in which flowers and foliage flicker in the light through an alchemy of materials. Branches and leaves are transformed into gestures and shapes. The use of fine material such as Gold leaf and other precious metallic overlays, on which color is diluted, reflect the light, offering a sense of ethereal. As Arrowsmith states: “I am interested in exploring themes of light, gesture and space through the energy and rhythm of mark-making.”<\/p>\n

A critical essay by Antonello Tolve is included in the exhibition catalogue. Tolve reflecting on the artist’s practice, explains \u201c\u2026the artist seems to conceive a chilled romanticism that never ceases to throb notwithstanding if it crosses the notes of the heart with those of the mind (the cruel exercise of analytical lucidity), refined in defining, outlining, recalling surreal and at times paradisiacal notations of nature\u201d.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue, published by Mucciaccia Contemporary Edizioni.<\/p>\n
