Giulia Abate is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Rome dedicated to BR1and entitled RITRATTI DI CONFINE, a vivid pictorial reflection on the concept of identity as an expression of freedom and determination to self-affirm. The exhibition inaugurates on Friday 2 December, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. and will run from 3 December 2022 to 15 February 2023.<\/p>\n

RITRATTI DI CONFINE presents a series of unpublished paintings in which women become the key for a discussion on the crucial debates of our time: ius soli, the presence of increasingly less permeable borders, the role of new foreign citizens in our society. BR1\u2019s artistic research is characterised by strong black lines, a stylistic simplification defined by clear contours and a choice of bright colours, however tackling sensitive and profound subject matters. The focus theme is the figure of the woman portrayed with veils that let her gaze shine through Muslim Hijabs and other headwear that are increasingly used in western culture. Particular interest is focused on the physiognomy of the faces, characterised by visual clarity and harmony of the gaze. In this way, the women of BR1 engage in a dialogue with each other, on intimate and everyday issues, on political and social events.<\/p>\n

BR1 addresses the concept of borders, both physical and mental, which is intended to be broken down in order to stimulate a dialogue in the Mediterranean world. Briefly, BR1\u2019s research invites us to reflect on how we are victims of rigid paradigms, which lead us to forget that we are all inhabitants of the same world.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is accompanied with a publication by Mucciaccia Contemporary Edizioni, with an unedited interview to the artist.<\/p>\n
