Annie Morris studied at the \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris between 1997 and 2001 under Giuseppe Penone before completing her education at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Morris\u2019s multi-disciplinary practice draws on both personal experience and the history of art.<\/p>\n

Encompassing sculpture, tapestry, painting and drawing, Morris\u2019s intuitive use of line weaves between abstraction and representation. Morris\u2019s most recognizable body of work is her \u2018Stack\u2019 series, begun in 2014 and inspired by the artist\u2019s grief following a stillbirth.<\/p>\n

The sculptures, which are comprised of irregular spheres precariously arranged into tall columns, evoke the swell of pregnancy. Sculpted in plaster or cast in bronze, the forms are painted with hand-sourced, raw pigments in vivid hues such as Ultramarine, Viridian and Ochre, which give Morris’s lumpen orbs a rich, vibrant hue. Morris uses the same deep pigments in her drawing and tapestry practice, which combines personal ciphers with abstract mark-making and grid-like structures.<\/p>\n

Since he was young, Abate works closely with leading artists of the Italian and international scene.Through his photography, Abate documents the lives\u00a0of artists such as\u00a0Kounellis, Merz, Pascali, Penone, Abramovic and Paolini, reporting\u00a0their stories in a sensitive and personal way. His photographs represent the great cultural ferment of the 1950s and 1960s. His intimate relationship with his artworks continues over the years. From the 1980s, he begins new personal projects, using different techniques like direct contact on the sensitive surface of the film camera. He also experiments colour film and\u00a0 digital cameras.<\/p><\/div>
