Robert Rauschenberg

After the important shows of Giorgio De Chirico and Mimmo Rotella, Galleria Mucciaccia  presents an exhibition of Robert Rauschenberg, one of the greatest American artists. About twenty works created between 1974 and 1986 which, in their ability to trigger a resourceful evolving, define a reality conjugated in the present. The thought and work of Robert Rauschenberg, an American artist born in Port Arthur in Texas in 1925, the complexity of the issues and for the originality of the above solutions, play a leading role in the field of aesthetic reflection of the second half of ‘900. Artist with inexhaustible creativity, Rauschenberg is one of the shinier and innovative witnesses of American consumer society of the Sixties and Seventies. In 1970 the artist decided to leave New York and established on the island of Captiva, off the coast of Florida, where he still lives and works. There his art undergoes a major turning point and his trial becomes more feverish. The works in the exhibition is characterized by spontaneity and randomness, and incorporates elements and materials from the real world, from everyday life, assembled in a significant other, build a mobile landscape, in constant transformation. Emulating the laws of consumerism, highlighting the mechanisms of passive reception and the repeated and frenzied consumption of images, Rauschenberg decontextualizes and recreates in his works visions that aim to hit the public imagination, and emphasize a taste exquisitely pictorial and expressive intentionally performed. Tireless investigator of techniques and materials, the artist introduces in his works images and different elements collected randomly, giving the obvious a new dignity: resort to collage, using pages of newspapers, clippings, comics, and screen printing to print on various media images derived from reality, photographs, advertising, building an urban landscape mobile constantly changing. “Painting” the artist says “is in relationship with both the art with life. Neither it can be built. I try to operate in the space between the two. ” The elegant works that result make the artist a precursor of Pop Art and document intensive, always marked by experimentation.
