Maurizio Savini - ZAR

Maurizio Savini, ZAR 220x110x40, anno 2013

At the Jubilee Hall at the “Vittoriano” in Rome a solo exhibition of the artist Maurizio Savini collects a body of work created by the artist between 2009 and 2013. “Power of disappointment” is the title of the exhibition – curated by Giulia Abate and in collaboration with “Comunicare Organizzando and  Galleria Mucciaccia – gives a clue to the precise opposite of Savini works: the sculptures and installations made with chewing gum and fiberglass introduce a playful world, sweet and soft as a chewing gum. A world that touches particular strings, those related to the sphere of childhood where the game of fantasy makes us think at the chewing gum as a synonymous of fun and carefree. Fun moves to irony and to the power of delusion. About that the artist writes: “The power of delusion is seeing a fresco that crumbles leaving visible the design. If you superimpose this idea of poetic root of a rational thought I get a figure, a module that allows me to quickly read the urgent collective motivations that move the society we live in … a society that begins to feel the first symptoms of a sickness “. As an example of this significant artistic language installation “Pilate Syndrome” or “Zar” expressing “tenderly” the hardness of the company. And so the gum is also a metaphor for a society that consumes quickly, devouring and trashing everything quickly. A society that savors and does not feed, living on the surface. Far from imposing a system moralizing, Savini, with his works, presents us  a world torn between the desire to play and the need to rationalize, leaving us to settle with a question: is it worth being already disappointed?
