Mucciaccia Gallery New York is pleased to announce “Intersections” featuring two solo projects by New York based artists: Stipan Tadić and Kati Vilim. The show features both figurative and abstract paintings that represent the artists’ perceptions of the world, and reflect the forms they create to translate and refract those observations.

Stipan Tadić’s works build on a tradition of depicting New York City night scenes, employing a beautiful and delicate range of colors that capture the street life atmosphere of a night walk in the East Village. Temporal touches give ephemeral and subjective clues of Tadić’s experiences of moments, reflecting both familiar and personal aspects of a neighborhood that welcomed Tadić recently. Working with imagination and local inspiration, the artist builds elements of his reality into works that are inspired by what he sees during frequent night walks. Tadić explains, “In my work I like to capture the outside world and bring it to life together with a strong subjective aspect. In this way I am juxtaposing the inner to the outer world. As a tool for that I use references from video games, and combine them with classical European masters such as Brueghel, the German expressionists or underground comics from the 60s.”

Kati Vilim creates non representational geometric images. Her visual ideas originate in abstract, often invisible parts of the world, like music, or mathematics. These ideas become visible through compositions Vilim creates from geometric forms – some simple, some complex – using transparencies, colors, structures, ratios or rules, such as repetition and symmetry. By creating a non-contextual visual language, Vilim is also interested in  learning about how the brain works, and how visual information is managed: “The way in which our mind creates an image translated from reality is a complicated process – many things can get lost or added through the interpretation. Through the understanding of a new image, an art piece can help us to open up new ways to understand the world, or ourselves from a new and different aspect. With a novel combination of visual elements, an image can help us to be more aware of the process of the interpretation itself. “
