Cristiano Pintaldi
Born in 1970 in Rome. Lives and works in Rome.
Since 1991 Pintaldi begins to paint with only the three primary colours, red, green and blue on a black background, placed together in the same way in which the pixels are arranged to give life to picture on the television screen. The subject-matters chosen are drawn from popular culture, TV programs, cartoons, Kubrick movies. Cristiano Pintaldi’s pictorial research is based on the reconstruction of visual space obtained through a procedure similar to that of the video imaging. His paintings are in fact paintings according to the scrambling logic that is typical of electronic images, where the elementary units of information displayed on the screen is the pixel, with dots of red, green and blue colour. The pixels that Pintaldi reproduce on the canvas are painted by hand. Pintaldi’s work represent the new type of vision stimulated by virtual reality, often more present and pervasive than the “real”, with the aim of highlighting that digital image is not infinite as the “real,” but reducible to the pixel. A pictorial work that requires extreme precision and a time of realisation paradoxically long compared to the speed with which pixels build the image in the video space. Pintaldi’s first solo exhibition Trasmissioni is in 1991 in Rome at Galleria 2RC curated by Luigi Scialanga. His exhibition Avvistamenti follows in 1992, always in Rome, at Galleria Sprovieri curated by Achille Bonito Oliva. He exhibits his works in major museums in Rome; MAXXI, Macro Testaccio, Galleria Nazionale d’ Arte Moderna. In 2011, Cristiano Pintaldi exhibits Lucid Dreams, solo exhibition curated by Achille Bonito Oliva as part of the official programme of collateral events during Venice Biennale.
